My new compass

This pendant has meaning.

It was a gift from my friend, Dianne. It’s a compass that is meant to remind me that beginning on January 1, my life will be guided by my own compass rather than a timeclock or an alarm clock or any other clock for that matter. I love it and the freedom and adventure it symbolizes.

I have 2 work days until I’m officially retired. I’m a little nervous but more than a little excited.

People have wondered if I will be bored, what I will do to “fill my days” once I finish this trip. More than a few have said they are certain that I won’t last a month without working again once I return. Maybe they are right and I guess that would not be a bad thing. But I am pretty sure I will have no problem “filling my days” in the meantime.

I have been practicing “filling my days” since I reduced my work schedule to 3 days a week in October. Those 2 extra days off have not been enough. I’m busy! Fridays have been a drawing class at the Met. Repeating a class I’d taken before with another friend - Dianna. I am really not a very good artist, but the class helps me see things differently. I notice shadows, and textures, and details I always used to overlook. Its exactly the perspective I wanted to have as I start my new adventure.  My sketch pad and pencils are definitely coming along.

In addition to drawing more, I get to the gym regularly. I am exploring the city, walking a ton. Reading a lot. Doing all the puzzles. Seeing friends. I have even dabbled a little in dating after a 30 year hiatus. It’s been fun. The compass is guiding me in new and different ways. I don’t yet know where my true north lies, but it’s there and I will find it eventually!

Oh it's looks so beautiful on you! I love the intentional way you're easing into this next chapter and I'm excited to see where the compass points you next.
