And She’s Off!

The day has come. My flight leaves JFK this morning and I am enroute to Melbourne, Australia. Flying Qatar Air through Doha in their “QSuites” business class. I arrive Saturday morning, Aussie time, so I’m losing a day along the way. I am excited to get there, but low key dreading the looonnngg flight. I’m in that autopilot travel state of mind, so hopefully the next few days will pass quickly and with a modicum of comfort. Wish me luck!

Also - I’m incredibly proud I was able to pack for 3 months in 2 relatively small bags. It was a challenge - this is multiple trips in one, hitting 8 countries with activities ranging from jungle trekking to beach lounging to tennis watching to kayaking to city exploring. The accommodations run the gamut from five star resorts to tented encampments and from a barge along the Mekong to the Queen Anne across the Pacific. Consequently, these bags contain a weird assortment of malaria pills and bug spray, SPF and sun dresses, hiking pants and sequins and a little silk. I refined and weaned incessantly over the past week, but I still probably overpacked. Only time will tell.

One more odd tidbit to share before take off.

I don’t normally pay attention to astrology and wouldn’t necessarily turn to the NY Post for life advice, but I read this horoscope around new years and wanted it to be true for me as a proud Cancer baby:

Jupiter is in Cancer for the first half of the year, sitting potent and pretty in your first house of the self, lending you an ordained-for-greatness vibe.

“The stars provide Cancers with enhanced motivation and better timing for all their actions. The upcoming year offers excellent opportunities for self-improvement,” said Boyd.

Jupiter is about the trajectory of onward, upward, and the best is yet to come, helping crabs shake loose any stagnancy in their lives.

“Say yes to opportunities even if they feel slightly outside your comfort zone.”

Well let’s see. I am cultivating my “ordained for greatness” vibe, motivated to “shake loose any stagnancy”, committed to saying yes to opportunities that are outside my comfort zone…and absolutely confident that the best is yet to come. Kind of works!

See you on the other side of the world….

Because shouldn’t all airplane meals come with a little fake candle??

Great packing job! It's the cartographer in me but you are flying west to east (via Qatar) rather than east to west to get to DownUnder?? Cheers!

Replying to

Yes, Lee! I flew over Europe to Qatar (11 hours) and then Qatar to Melbourne (13 hours). It was long, but done on points so I couldn’t be that picky!
